Terrace Software (Derek Armentrout and Todd Ziesing) will be presenting a discussion of the analysis work necessary before building great enterprise software at the Computer Science Colloquium of Sonoma State University. Understanding the problem before you develop the software is critical to developing great software for business.
A great software release intuitively solves a problem. Your software release will be pedestrian if you aren’t able to transform the problem into a simple and efficient user experience. Many engineers focus on learning the syntax and design patterns of the technologies they use to create new software. Programming languages, database designs, interfaces, and security typically consume the average engineer. To be a great engineer you need to move beyond technology syntax. A great engineer spends significant time learning the problem and understanding behaviors of the typical user. Learning the problem and transforming that knowledge into an active, intuitive user experience often requires more time than actually designing and developing the solution.
In this talk Terrace will present a fast, effective and engaging method to learning the problem, transforming this knowledge into actionable media (e.g. use cases, activity diagrams, site maps, user interface mock ups, etc.) and discuss some of the pitfalls you may encounter along the way. October 25, 2012 - Consulting Services - Terrace Software is pleased to announce the launch of ZipShare on Windows Azure. Terrace was engaged by WinZip and Microsoft to migrate the ZipShare file sharing platform from Google to Azure keeping the core technology in place. Terrace implemented the ZipShare 2.0 service on Windows Azure using a RESTful API, Google Sitebricks and Java. The site is implemented on an Apache Tomcat webserver running as a Windows Azure worker role.
Terrace designed a fully asynchronous back end allowing Java Applications to run on Windows Azure worker roles providing ‘on demand’ scalability. This innovative architecture will permit WinZip to scale the services out and in to support both normal and massive load volumes.
The new ZipShare site is integrated with the latest release of WinZip - version 17. Users can simultaneously share compressed files with Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIN. For more information see:
